People ask for two very different things in the same tone of voice. One is a problem to be solved, and the other is a wish not to be alone with it. Answering the second with a plan is a common way of being unhelpful while working hard. Getting this right is mostly a matter of asking which one is wanted.
When someone brings you something heavy, ask whether they want ideas or company. Believe the answer. If they say company, sit with it and let the solution in your head wait.
Who wanted your company recently and got your instructions instead?
