Tell the person you love what you appreciated before the day fills with corrections.

Households run on maintenance talk: the bin, the form, the thing that was forgotten again. None of it is unkind, but it is corrective by nature, and if it goes first it sets the register for everything after. Appreciation said early changes what the corrections sound like. Said late, it can sound like an apology.

Say one specific thing you were glad of before you raise anything that needs fixing. Keep it small and true rather than sweeping. Do it before the day starts making the order for you.
