The person who needs a quieter space should not have to defend that need to the room.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Asking for less noise, lower light or a smaller group tends to require a justification that other preferences never need. Nobody explains why they want the window open, but the person who cannot manage the music is expected to produce a reason and often a diagnosis. That price means most people endure it or leave early, and everyone else concludes the arrangement was fine.
If someone asks for a quieter option, adjust what you can and skip the interrogation. If you are the one who needs it, ask plainly and let the reason be that you would prefer it.
