Good access lets people arrive with dignity instead of gratitude for being accommodated.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Access that is built in advance is simply the way the place works. Access improvised at the door turns a person into a request, and a request has to be granted by someone with the power to refuse. The physical result can look identical while the experience is entirely different, and the difference is who had to ask.
Take one place you host or organize and look for the moment where someone would have to ask. Fix that part before anyone arrives, quietly, without announcing it. Then say in the invitation what is already there so nobody has to find out by trying.
Where have you been made to feel thankful for basic inclusion?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
