Courage is allowing reality to answer questions fear has been answering for you.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fear answers questions it has no evidence for. It tells you how the conversation would go, what the person thinks, whether you would cope, and it presents these as findings rather than guesses. Courage is mostly the act of taking those questions away from fear and putting them to reality instead.

Pick one thing you have concluded without testing: that they would say no, that you could not do it, that it would go badly. Then run the actual test. Whatever comes back, you have replaced a prediction with a fact, and facts are considerably easier to live with.
