The familiar way of doing a task may matter to someone whose choices have already narrowed.

For a person whose options have narrowed through illness, age or circumstance, the way a task is done can carry weight far beyond efficiency. It may be one of the few things still decided by them, in an order they chose, at their own pace. A better method offered from outside can register as one more thing taken over, even when it is genuinely better.
Ask before improving somebody’s routine, and be willing to hear no without persuading. If a change is needed for safety, explain why and let them shape how it happens. Keeping the parts that still work their way is worth more than the minutes saved.
Whose small habit did you improve without asking what it protected?
