A person given another chance still needs to understand what the first chance cost somebody else.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Forgiveness and understanding are separate transactions, and only one of them can be granted by somebody else. Being allowed back does not automatically transfer the knowledge of what the damage did: the weeks somebody spent recovering, the trust they now spend energy on, the thing they stopped doing because of it. Without that, the second chance tends to be treated as a reset rather than as something extended at cost. Repeating the harm then looks, from the inside, like bad luck.

If you have been given one, ask what it took from the other person and listen without defending. That conversation is the part that makes the chance mean anything.
