The easiest way to protect your name is to live in a way that requires less defending.

LEADERSHIP
Defending a reputation is constant work, and the amount required is set by how much there is to defend against. Living in a way that generates few things needing explanation is not merely more honest; it is dramatically less effortful than maintaining a version of yourself that requires ongoing support.
If you find yourself frequently having to explain or manage how something looked, treat that frequency as a signal rather than a nuisance. Ask what in your conduct is producing the need. Fixing the conduct is usually less work than continuing to fix the impression.
