A private compromise can become a public habit faster than expected.

The first compromise is always framed as an exception. It happens once, quietly, and because nothing bad follows, the second one is easier and the third barely registers as a decision. What began as a single departure becomes a way of operating, usually without any moment where you noticed it changing.
Treat the first instance as the important one rather than the harmless one. If you catch yourself calling something a one-off, that phrase is worth attention. Deciding at the first instance is far cheaper than trying to reverse an established habit later.
Which small compromise has quietly become routine for you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
