The swimmer pausing at the wall is still part of the session.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Stopping at the end of a length is not leaving. Rest sits inside the training rather than suspending it, and the swimmer at the wall is still in the water, still counting, still going back. That is worth remembering, because we tend to define taking part as continuous motion and then read any pause as evidence of quitting. Recovery belongs to the work, not to its interruption.
Look at something you have been doing without breaks and consider where the wall should be. Taking one deliberately, before you are forced to, tends to keep the whole session going longer.
When you stopped to breathe recently, did you count it as quitting?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
