A gardener learns the difference between looking neglected and needing intervention.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Untidiness and trouble are not the same condition, though they look alike from the gate. A bed left to seed can be perfectly healthy, and a well-clipped one can be starving. Learning to tell them apart takes time in one place and a willingness to be wrong about what your eye first reports. The impulse to tidy is very often an impulse to feel useful wearing different clothes.
Look at something you have been meaning to fix and ask whether it is actually failing or merely untidy. If it is only the second, leaving it alone for a season is a real decision and often the right one.
