An early start is useful only in relation to what the extra time actually serves.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rising early is a means that frequently gets treated as a virtue. Two hours gained and spent on the same scattered attention you would have had later is not an improvement, only a longer day. The value sits entirely in what the time is for, and that question gets skipped because the getting up already feels like the achievement. Discipline about the hour is easier than clarity about the purpose.

Before setting an early alarm, decide what the first hour is for and write it down. If you cannot name it, the sleep is probably worth more than the start.
