A borrowed argument deserves checking before it becomes your public certainty.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Most of what anyone believes was assembled from other people’s reasoning. That is unavoidable and mostly fine, right up until you start saying it with confidence in rooms where it might matter. At that point it is yours, and if it turns out to be wrong, the person you borrowed it from is not the one standing there.
Before you commit to a position in public, spend twenty minutes checking the part you have never verified. Find where the claim comes from and what its strongest objection is. If you cannot summarise the counterargument, you have inherited a conclusion rather than reached one.
What claim do you repeat without having checked it yourself?
