The quick correction offered kindly lets both people keep the useful part of the encounter.

Corrections go wrong when they arrive late or heavily. Left too long, an error grows roots and fixing it becomes an event; delivered harshly, the other person spends their attention on embarrassment instead of the information. A small, early, warm correction lets everybody keep what was good about the exchange. Manner is not decoration here; it decides whether the content survives at all.
When you notice a mistake, say it soon and lightly, then carry on as though little happened. If somebody corrects you, take it and continue rather than apologising at length. Speed and warmth do most of the work.
When did a gentle correction save something you would have lost?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
