Information becomes wisdom only after experience tests it.

CREATIVITY
Knowing something and having lived it are different states. Information tells you what is generally true; experience tells you what it is like when it is your situation, at three in the morning, with the specific complications involved. Wisdom is what remains after the first has been tested by the second.
When you take in advice or a principle, hold it as provisional rather than settled. Try it, notice where it fits and where it does not, and adjust. The refinement is the actual work. Collecting more information without ever testing any of it produces a large library and very little judgment.
Which advice did you only understand after living it?
