Adult closeness sometimes begins by allowing childhood accounts to remain different.

GRATITUDE
Siblings raised in the same house did not live in the same house. Ages differ, parents change, and one child’s steady years overlap another’s difficult ones, so two people can describe one childhood in versions that cannot both be true and are both accurate to what was felt. Insisting on a single account usually costs more than it settles. Agreement is not the entry price for closeness.
If you disagree about the past with somebody you love, try believing their experience without adopting it as yours. Ask what a particular year was like for them.
Whose version of your shared childhood could you stop correcting?
