Learning requires enough humility to let reality correct you.

CREATIVITY
Learning requires being correctable, and being correctable requires accepting that reality gets the final word over your preferences. That sounds obvious and is difficult in practice, because most of us have an investment in having been right. The humility involved is not self-deprecation; it is just letting evidence outrank pride.
When something contradicts what you believed, sit with the contradiction before resolving it. Do not immediately find the reason the evidence is flawed. Ask instead what it would mean if it were correct. Sometimes you will conclude the evidence is bad. Often you will find you have learned something.
What has life corrected you about lately?
