The best teachers do not make you depend on them; they make you better at thinking alone.

The mark of good teaching is that the student needs less of it over time. Someone who leaves you dependent, always requiring their interpretation, has taught you their conclusions rather than how to reach your own. The better version hands over the method and then steps back.

Check the sources you rely on by this test. Are you learning how to think about the subject or only what to think about it. If it is the second, find someone who shows their reasoning. And if you teach anyone, aim to make yourself progressively less necessary rather than more.
