The grandparent learning a child’s game is allowing affection to become curiosity.

CREATIVITY
Affection across a large age gap usually runs one way: the younger person is expected to come into the older one’s world, to sit still, to be interested in what interests them. Learning the game a child is currently obsessed with reverses that. It is not really about the game, which may be tedious, but about treating what they love as worth understanding rather than tolerating. Children notice the difference immediately, even if they could not describe it.
Ask a young person to teach you something they are good at, and let them correct you. Being bad at it in front of them is most of the gift.
Whose interests have you learned about purely because you love them?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
