Every subject becomes more interesting once you discover what beginners are never told.

Every field has a layer beneath the introductory account, where the real complications, disagreements, and interesting problems live. Beginners are given the simplified version for good reasons, and it is also the version that makes subjects seem dull. The interest is usually one layer down.

With any subject you found boring, try going deeper rather than away. Read something written for practitioners rather than for newcomers. Even without following all of it, you will see the shape of what is actually contested, and that is where the subject becomes alive rather than a set of facts.
