People who feel entitled to an answer often overlook the work their question creates.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
A question takes ten seconds to ask and can take an hour to answer. That asymmetry is invisible to the person asking, because all they experience is the small effort of typing it, while somebody else has to look things up, check, and write it out. When asking feels like a right, the labour on the other side stops registering as labour at all.
Before you send a request, spend two minutes trying to answer it yourself and say that you did. And when you must ask, make the answer as cheap as possible: be specific, say what you already know, and give a real deadline.
Whose questions cost you more time than they realise?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
