The last thought before sleep need not be appointed judge of the whole day.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
The mind at the end of the day is tired, unguarded and drawn to whatever is unresolved. Whatever surfaces then tends to be the sharpest thing rather than the truest, and because it comes last it gets treated as the verdict. A day with one difficult conversation and eleven ordinary hours can be filed entirely under the conversation. The timing gives that thought an authority it has not earned.
If something arrives as you are falling asleep, note it and let it wait until morning. The same thought at nine is usually smaller, and you will be in better condition to see what, if anything, it needs.
How harshly does your last thought at night judge the day?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
