A public performance belongs partly to the interruptions it cannot choose.

CREATIVITY
Anything done in public is co-authored by whatever else is happening. A siren, a child, a phone, a group talking at the back: none of it was invited, all of it is in the room, and the performance that pretends otherwise usually goes worse than the one that lets it in. Control is not on offer outside a closed hall. What you get instead is a version that could only have happened that night.
If you do anything in front of people, plan for interruption rather than against it. Acknowledging the noise briefly and carrying on keeps the room with you, which is what you actually needed.
What interruption ended up shaping something you made in public?
