The message deleted from your screen may remain part of someone else’s day.

Deleting removes a message from your view rather than from the world. Once something has been read it has already done its work: felt, thought about, folded into somebody’s afternoon, and no button reaches back into that. What you erased is the record, not the effect. A tidy screen can persuade you that more has been undone than actually was.
If you regret something you sent, follow it with a real sentence rather than a deletion. Say what you meant and that you got it wrong. And in a hot moment, remember that the sending is the part still under your control.
Which message of yours might still be sitting with its reader?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
