A photograph of a team cannot show how decisions moved around the room.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

A group photo flattens a structure. Everyone is the same size, standing in a row, and nothing in the image shows who was listened to, who quietly rewrote the plan, or whose objection turned out to be the one that changed it. Influence has no visual form, so it drops out of the record entirely. What survives is the roster rather than the workings.

To understand how something actually got done, ask about the moments a picture cannot hold: where the plan changed and who was in the room. If you lead a group, say those things out loud afterwards. The photograph will not do it for you.
