The chair at the head of the table gives an opinion a head start.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Position affects how a view is received before the view is even stated. From the head of the table an idea gets attention, fewer interruptions and more benefit of the doubt, while the same idea from the far end may need saying twice. Nobody decides this consciously; the room does it automatically. The seat is doing work that people mistake for the quality of the argument.
If you are in the strong seat, notice who has been trying to speak and hand them the floor by name. If you are not, say the thing early rather than waiting for a gap.
Where does your position make your opinion sound better than it is?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
