A return journey sometimes clarifies which parts of belonging were portable all along.

Going back tests what you were carrying. Some of what felt like belonging turns out to live in the place and stays there when you leave, and some of it is in you, portable, still working two hundred miles away. You cannot tell which is which until you return and notice what you did not actually need. The visit is informative in a way the memory never is.
If you go back somewhere this year, pay attention to what you slip into instantly and what now feels borrowed. Bring the portable parts home deliberately rather than assuming they only exist there.
What part of home did you carry with you when leaving?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
