Being alone lets you notice which desires disappear without witnesses.

Some wants exist only because someone would see them fulfilled. The purchase, the achievement, the destination that loses its appeal once you realise nobody will know about it. Removing the audience is the cleanest test of which desires are yours and which were always about being seen.

Run the test on something you currently want. Ask whether you would still want it if nobody would ever find out you had it. If the answer is no, that is worth knowing before you spend years pursuing it. What remains after the test is a much shorter and more reliable list.
