The crossing signal measures seconds that different bodies experience very differently.

A fixed number of seconds is not a neutral standard. Crossing timings are usually set for an average walking pace that excludes older people, anyone using sticks or a frame, parents with small children and people whose pain makes speed expensive, so the same green light means comfort for one person and a small emergency for another. The clock is identical. The experience is not.
Watch a crossing near you for a few minutes and see who is still in the road when the signal changes. If you have any say in such things, the fix is usually a longer count rather than a warning to hurry.
Whose pace does your schedule quietly assume everyone can match?
