The method worth keeping should explain why it works well enough to adapt.
CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY
A procedure you cannot explain is a procedure you cannot adjust. Following steps that work is fine until conditions change slightly, at which point the person who knows why each step exists can adapt and the person who only knows the sequence is stuck repeating something that no longer applies. This is the difference between a method and a ritual. Both work in familiar conditions; only one survives new ones.
Take a routine you follow at work or at home and try to say what each part is for. Wherever you cannot, either find out or consider whether that part still needs to be there.
Which of your methods could you not adapt to new circumstances?
