When you find a fault decides what kind of fault it is. Before the irreversible step, a crack is a repair, an hour of work and a slightly wiser maker. After that step, the same crack is a loss, and the only remaining questions are about what to salvage and what to do differently next time. Nothing about the flaw changed. The point at which it was seen did.
