The smallest name in the credits may belong to someone’s largest effort.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Credit is sorted by role, not by how much of a person went into the work. The name in small type at the end may belong to someone who gave a year of nights to a job nobody will ever attribute to them, while the name in large letters may have arrived late and left early. Visibility measures position in a structure, and effort measures something else entirely.

Read the small print occasionally, in a film, a report, a programme. When you know whose work went where, say the name out loud to the person who did it. It costs nothing and it is remembered for years.
