The button made easy to press still owes people clarity about what it changes.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ease and honesty are two different obligations, and meeting the first does not discharge the second. A control that takes one tap and commits money, shares data or cancels something ought to say plainly what it does before the tap, not after. Smooth design that hides consequence is not convenience; it is a decision made on somebody’s behalf without telling them.

If you build or write anything with a button in it, read the label as a stranger would and ask what they would expect to happen. Where the answer is unclear, add the missing sentence. Friction placed exactly where understanding is needed is not a flaw.
