A careful stitch can carry affection through years of ordinary washing.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Affection put into something practical survives in a way that words often do not. A hem sewn properly by somebody who loved you goes through a hundred wash cycles, gets worn on unremarkable Tuesdays, and keeps holding, which is a strange and durable form of being cared for. The care is not on display; it is inside the seam, doing its job.
Look at what you own for the repairs somebody else made. If you can sew even badly, mend one thing for a person rather than buying them something. Practical care outlasts the occasion it was given for.
What did someone make for you that is still in use?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
