The same street is scenery to one person and a list of jobs to another. A visitor sees the old windows and the cobbles; whoever lives there sees the draught, the repointing, the cost of getting a van down a lane that narrow. Neither view is wrong, and beauty maintained by somebody is a different object from beauty encountered.

Enjoy what you find when you travel, and hold the enjoyment alongside the knowledge that it is somebody’s Tuesday. Spend money locally rather than only photographing. And when you are the resident, it is worth occasionally walking your own place as though you had never seen it.
