If your mind expects defeat, opportunity can knock and still sound like danger.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Expectation shapes perception before judgement gets involved. A mind braced for loss reads ambiguity as threat, so the new role, the unfamiliar invitation, and the honest conversation all register in the body as risk rather than possibility. You then decline for reasons that feel like prudence. The refusal happened at the level of sensation, and reason arrived afterwards to justify it.

When something makes you uneasy, separate the physical alarm from the actual analysis. Ask what a person who expected things to go reasonably well would notice about the same situation. You do not have to believe their conclusion; you just have to let it into the room.
