Sometimes the breakthrough is realizing the voice saying “you can’t” belongs to an older version of you.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The voice that says you cannot is usually not lying about the past. There probably was a time when you could not, when you did not have the skill, the support, or the steadiness, and the voice learned its line then. What it has failed to do is update. It is still delivering a report about someone who no longer exists.

When you hear that voice, ask how old it sounds. Then list what you have learned or survived since it was last accurate. You are not arguing with it; you are simply showing it a more recent photograph.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How old were you when you first believed you could not?
