A missing page can make an honest reader invent the wrong connection.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Minds do not tolerate gaps; they bridge them. Given an account with something missing, an entirely fair-minded person will join the two edges that remain and produce a story that feels complete and is wrong, without any dishonesty being involved anywhere. That is worth knowing about others and about yourself, since the invented join feels exactly like memory.
Where you are giving someone a partial account, say plainly what you are leaving out and why. And when a story you have assembled feels a little too neat, go looking for the page you never had.
What did you conclude from a story missing half its pages?
