An explanation given to you young keeps its comfort long after it has run out of accuracy. It feels like knowledge because you have held it so long, and familiarity is easily mistaken for truth. Meanwhile the world got more complicated and the old account stayed where it was. Nothing announces the moment an explanation stopped being enough.

Pick something you were told early about how people or money or bodies work, and ask when you last examined it. Find one thing that has been learned since. Updating an old explanation is not a betrayal of whoever handed it to you.
