The friend introduced awkwardly may matter more than the introduction can show.

Introductions are a poor measure of a relationship. Someone can be central to your life and still come out sounding like a job title and a fumbled sentence, because the things that make them matter are private, accumulated and hard to compress. The awkwardness is a limit of the format, not a verdict on the person.
If you have introduced someone badly, say the truer thing later, either to them or to the person you introduced them to. And when you meet a friend of a friend who was described clumsily, hold off on your first impression. You have been given the summary, not the friendship.
Whom do you struggle to describe though they matter enormously?
