The creator’s job is sometimes to show people something they did not know they wanted.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

People can only ask for variations on what they already know, so demand is a poor guide to anything genuinely new. Part of making things is proposing something nobody could have specified, then letting the recognition happen after the fact. The wanting comes second.

Stop treating requests as the full picture of what is needed. Watch what people work around, tolerate, and complain about without expecting a fix. Build the thing that answers the complaint they never framed as a request.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What could you offer people who cannot yet name what they need?
