We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

— Benjamin Franklin

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

When a group faces something that threatens all of it, the instinct to protect yourself individually is exactly what lets the threat succeed. Broken apart, each person is easy to deal with; together, the same people are difficult. The temptation to break ranks is strongest right when solidarity matters most, because that is when the personal risk feels sharpest. Pressure finds the seams.

If your team, family or group is under strain, notice where you are being approached separately and what that separation is for. Talk to the others before you answer. Shared information is most of what holds a group together under pressure.
