Successful minds work like a gimlet,—to a single point.

— Christian Nestell Bovee

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Force spread across many points does nothing; the same force at one point goes through. That is the whole difference between busy and effective, and it is why the person doing fewer things often finishes more of them. A drill bit does not cut by being strong but by concentrating what strength it has. Capable people more often fail for lack of narrowness than for lack of effort.

Look at your current list and find the item that would matter most if it were finished. Give it your best hours rather than your leftover ones. The rest will either wait or turn out not to have needed doing.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which single aim would you pursue if you dropped the rest?
