A perverse temper and fretful disposition will, wherever they prevail render any state of life whatsoever unhappy.

— Cicero

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Circumstances change less than people expect, because the person arrives along with the circumstances. A habit of irritation finds material in a good job and a bad one, in a small flat and a large house, and each time it feels justified by whatever is in front of it. That is the trap: the irritation always has evidence. What it lacks is any real relationship to how your life is going.

Before blaming the situation, check whether you said the same thing in the last one. If the complaint has merely changed costume, the work is nearer to home. Start with sleep, food and the first hour of the day.
