Every man is like the company he is wont to keep.

— Euripides

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

You drift toward the people you spend time with, not by deciding to but by absorption: their standards become the normal ones, their jokes become yours, what they shrug at you start shrugging at too. It happens below deliberate choice, which is why willpower is a poor defence against it. The company you keep is doing a slow, constant kind of teaching whether or not anyone intends the lesson.

Look at who you have seen most this month, and ask what each has been making more normal for you. Then change one thing: more time with the person you are better around, less with whoever you are worse around.
