Waste not fresh tears over old griefs.

RESILIENCE
Old sorrow has a way of taking today’s feeling and spending it on what is already finished. This is not a rule about how long grief may last, which is nobody’s to set. It is a noticing: some griefs still have life in them and need what you give, and some you return to out of habit, where the returning changes nothing.
If you find yourself going back to an old hurt, see whether anything is actually being worked out there. If nothing is, you are allowed to set it down for the day, which is not the same as saying it did not matter.
Which old sorrow still takes more from you than it should?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
