Words are often seen hunting for an idea, but ideas are never seen hunting for words.

GRATITUDE
When you have something real to say, the words come; when you do not, you produce phrases and hope one of them turns out to contain a thought. The second state is recognisable from inside if you are willing to notice it: the sentences are elaborate, the tone is confident, and nothing is actually being claimed. Fluency is not the same as having something, and it is often a substitute.
Before writing or speaking at length, state your point in one flat sentence to yourself. If you cannot, the problem is upstream of the words. Go back and decide what you think before deciding how to say it.
Where are you producing sentences with nothing underneath them?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
