The mind that is cheerful in its present state, will be averse to all solicitude as to the future, and will meet the bitter occurrences of life with a placid smile.

GRATITUDE
A mind content with today does not spend itself on the future, and that is not carelessness but a refusal to pay for the same trouble twice. Worry rehearses a difficulty you may never meet, and the rehearsing uses the energy the actual difficulty will require. People who are steady in a crisis are often the ones who were not anxious in advance of it. They arrive with reserves.
When you catch yourself running scenarios, ask whether there is an action available today. If there is, take it. If there is not, the scenario costs you something and buys nothing, and putting it down is practical rather than naive.
Which of your worries loosens when today already feels sufficient?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
