Of permanent mourning there is none; no cloud remains fixed. The sun will shine to-morrow.

— Jean Paul

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Grief does not stay at one pitch, even when it feels as though it will. The weight changes shape over months in ways nobody can schedule, and there are ordinary mornings ahead where the light gets in without your permission. None of that is a reason to hurry, and being told it will pass is little use while you are inside it.

If you are in the middle of something heavy, you might let tomorrow be its own day rather than an extension of this one. And if someone near you is grieving, stay in touch past the point where everyone else has stopped.
