The person who has a firm trust in the Supreme Being is powerful in his power, wise by his wisdom, happy by his happiness.

— Joseph Addison

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Trust in something larger than yourself changes the size of what you are facing. For a person who has it, strength and wisdom and even happiness stop being possessions to be generated and defended, and become things drawn on. That is why such a person can look steady where someone relying on their own resources would be flattened. Whether or not you share the belief, a load is carried differently when it is not all yours.

Consider what you treat as entirely your responsibility to supply. Set down one piece of it this week, into prayer, into other people, or into plain acceptance that it is not all yours.
